TIPS FOR GETTING STARTED 

Get off to a fast start NOW!
This is a simple business – the formula for success is easy.  There is a wealth of information on our Web site to help you. Some of the articles most important to you as a new Educational Consultant are linked from the New EC Corner welcome page. Go at your own pace! 

Follow the “5 Steps to Success” in the next 30 days. 

Step 1:  Hold 2 parties of your own. (Your Grand Openings)
Step 2:  Create your Guest list using the F.R.A.N.K. Method
Step 3:  Book 4+ more parties.
Step 4:  Hostess coach with 10/5/1 technique.
Step 5:  Share your business and Recruit 1 new team member. 

Before your kit arrives…. 

Complete steps 1, 2, and 3 plus: 

  • Ask your recruiter for the dates of the next meeting and training and make plans to be there. 
  • Call in to two Discovery Toys Connection Calls every week and hear great tips and training. The current month’s call schedule can be found in your DT News or on the Web site. 

Step 1: Hold 2 parties of your own. (Your Grand Openings) 

  • Schedule two parties, your Grand Openings, within the next two weeks, in your own home to introduce your new business to your family and friends.  

This is great practice and your personal network will be a good source to help you start your business. Your Kit will include prompter cards for what to say, plus everything you need to conduct your own party and give an effective presentation.  

  • Book your Grand Opening within the next 2 weeks.  Set a date now. It’s a good idea to book a second Grand Opening party the day or two days after for those that can’t come to your first party.   

Step 2 : Create your Guest list using the F.R.A.N.K. Method. 

  • To make all your parties successful, why not invite “FRANK” to your parties? (F. R. A. N. K. is the acronym for Friends, Relatives, Activities, Neighbors, Kids Activities.)  This is a great way to help you and your future hostesses think of who to invite and how to invite them. See our Web site for more information about FRANK.   
  • Call and personally invite everyone to your Grand Opening.  

SCRIPT TO INVITE GUESTS TO GRAND OPENING: 

“Hi Beth, it’s Cindy. Mark your calendar for (month, day, date) at (time, AM or PM).  I just started selling DISCOVERY TOYS® products and I’m having my Grand Opening that night. We are going to have so much fun and I can’t wait to show you the award winning educational toys, books, games, and software. Will you be able to make it?”

  • If your first date is not good for them, offer the second date.
  • Or offer to get her a catalog to place an outside order…or better yet, ask if she’d like to host a party and get FREE products. 

Step 3:  Book 4+ more parties. 

Book 4 or more parties over the next 30 days.  Remember, this is a great time to be selling DISCOVERY TOYS® products, so create urgency to get parties booked to take advantage of the toy selling season.   

  • Think of at least 2 friends that you know would host a party for you to get you started and set their dates. 

SCRIPT TO SCHEDULE YOUR FIRST BOOKINGS: 

“Hi Lisa, have you ever heard of Discovery Toys?”
Wait for response.  If not, say, “They have some of the BEST children’s educational products including toys, books, games and software. I’ve just started my own business selling DISCOVERY TOYS® products and I was wondering if you’d help me get started by hosting a party for me. To thank you, you’ll receive FREE products of your choice. What do you think? Can I count on you to host a party?”           

Step 4:  Hostess coach with 10-5-1 technique.  

Now that you have the dates set with your hostesses, partner with them so that you both have a successful party.  Use our 10-5-1 coaching technique (10 guests in attendance, 5 outside orders, and 1 outside booking before you arrive at the party) to have a $500 party. Listen to the “How to have a $500 party” DT Connection call to hear how to set expectations and actions with your hostess. To learn more about  these techniques click on the links under Hostess Coaching and Holding a Party. 

Step 5: Share your business and recruit 1 new team member. 

Statistics show that if you meet and discuss the career with ten people, you should recruit one.  Check out the DT Connection calls and the Web site for help on what to say and do to grow your team. 

  • Who would you love to join you in this fun business? Write those names down. The best way to build your business is to build a team of people just like you. You can learn the business together and it’s SO much fun to attend meetings together and share ideas.   

SCRIPT TO SHARE YOUR BUSINESS OPPORTUNITY: 

Give them a call and say, “I’d love for you to do this too! We could learn together. It seems pretty simple and there’s plenty of support from the company with Web site tools, training calls, and local meetings. And, we could go on fabulous all expense paid trips together. What do you think?” 

After your kit arrives: 

  • Call a friend or neighbor to open your box of toys with you. Tell them you just received your toys and you’d like their opinion on the products.  You never know, she might decide to host a party or join your team!
     
  • Play with the products and familiarize yourself with the Toy Description Handbook or refer to Skill labels on our Web site. 
     
  • Start tracking to meet your Rocket Start goals. Information on the program and a tracking sheet are available on the Web site. Your deadline dates can be found in the Welcome letter you receive from Home Office.
